Castrol has announced the recall of 500g packs of Castrol Boating Grease and Coastrol HTB Grease with batch number Q0801419. Castrol says that HTB Grease is a multi-purpose grease for high temperature applications. It is not an apropriate substitute for boating grease. HTB grease is more susceptible to water contamination than boating grease and components that are regularly submerged, such as boat trailers, may experience a lack of lubrication if HTB grease is applied instead of boating grease.
Tubs of HTB grease have been incorrectly labelled as Castrol Boating Grease. Certain tubs of labelled Castrol Boating Grease actually contain Castrol HTB Grease. The incorrectly-labelled tubs were sold nationally from October 26 to December 20, 2010.
Castrol advises customers who have tubs of Castrol Boating Grease from the batch numbers above to immediately cease using any equipment on which the grease has been used and replace all grease with the correct blue Boating Grease.
