Carbon Yachts, a new distributor that will have its official launch at the 2023 Sydney International Boat Show, has flagged plans to bring the world’s fastest electric boat to the Australian market.
The brand will launch in Sydney with brands including Dutch carbonfibre daysailer specialist Saffier, Michael Schmidt-built German performance sailboat brand Y-Yachts, and Polish day boat brand Virtue Yachts, which will have a choice of conventional or electric engines.
But the jewel in the crown will be the Candela C-8, a high-speed Swedish foiling dayboat that uses an electric pod drive motor powered using a battery borrowed from Polestar, Volvo’s dedicated electric car division.
Carbon Yachts co-founder Peter Hrones said the extensive use of carbonfibre, used to build all the vessels that Carbon Yachts will sell, tied the portfolio together.
"We are delighted to introduce Carbon Yachts to the Australian market,” Hrones said.
“I feel as though this new company fills the gap for lightweight sailing and power vessels.
"I am always looking to the European market for the latest designs and when I find boats as good as these I know I need to bring them to the Australian market,” he said.
“Our focus on carbon gives our brands the cutting edge providing a fleet of fast and efficient vessels whether they are powered by sails or engines."
Carbon Yachts will use its own Vesseltec service centre that will use highly trained technicians equipped with state-of-the-art tools and technology.
Hrones said Carbon Yachts would provide after-sales support to meet the “unique needs of each customer” from maintenance and repairs to customisation.
Carbon Yachts will launch with the Virtue 10, a 10-metre single- or twin-outboard engined adventure yacht launched in concept form at last year’s Interboot, and the Saffier Se 33 Life, a 10-metre daysailer built around a high-speed hull with predictable handling.
Carbon Yachts is a family-owned Australian boat dealership led by Peter Hrones, an industry veteran with more than 30 years of experience in the marine industry, and his eldest son Chris.
The 2023 Sydney International Boat Show runs from August 3-6.
