There’s no point in having a motor yacht or sailboat built with lightness in mind and then bogging it down with a heavy tender.
Carbon Yachts, the recently formed Australian carbonfibre boat specialist, has added German lightweight tender specialist ASTenders to its listings, giving boat owners the option of a fully carbonfibre tender to match their ride.
The brand will have its official Australian launch at the 2024 Sydney International Boat Show, held at Darling Harbour from August 1-4.
ASTenders makes a range of lightweight carbonfibre tenders. Its smallest model, the 2.8-metre Beach 280, weighs 30kg before adding the engine, meaning it is easy for one person to manage as a tender.

ASTenders has also recently broadened its range to launch the 340 Revolve, a tender featuring an electric motor that can turn sideways when stowing it in a garage or on a swim deck, and the 400 Coast, a new flagship model featuring a foam core construction that is lighter than any RIB on the market and needs a smaller outboard engine or electric motor to move it.
The model range has more freeboard than equivalent RIBs, and more storage due to their unique design.
Carbon Yachts co-founder Chris Hrones said the brand was added to its portfolio after a visit to the Pitsdam, Germany-based manufacturing plant in April last year.
He said the unique position of ASTenders would fill a big gap in the Australian dinghy market with its sustainable, high-quality designs.

"These tenders are not only about luxury but about lasting value, with AST's models capable of outlasting traditional inflatables by decades," Hrones said.
ASTenders is building a reputation for its cutting-edge design and quality, and for offering an eco-friendly and efficient alternative to traditional RIBs without compromising performance.
It also prioritises sustainability, incorporating recycled materials and electric propulsion options into the tenders and minimising waste and emissions using advanced manufacturing processes.
Carbon Yachts will showcase ASTenders at its Sydney and Gold Coast-based showrooms. The dealership also represents brands including sailboat specialists Saffier Yachts and YYachts, dayboat specialist Virtue Yachts and high-speed foiling electric boat maker Candela.
