Candela Seven takes to the water in real-world video test

Candela Seven heads out on an early evening run around the Stockholm archipelago in a real-world virtual demonstration of its ability

Swedish “flying” boat maker Candela has given a virtual demonstration of its unique design, sharing a warts-and-all test drive of its electric foiling boat in real-world conditions.

Candela boasts the Seven, as the new model is called, is the world’s first electric boat to provide range at real-world speeds – think 50 nautical miles at a 22-knot cruising speed.

The boat-maker has released video of an extended, almost 40-minute virtual test ride in a bowrider version of the 25-foot craft.

“Thanks to wings under the hull, the Candela Seven flies above the surface which reduces energy consumption by 80 per cent compared to planing boats,” Calendra said.

“This gives an unprecedented electric range of 92km (50 nautical miles) in 20 knots, three times the range of any other electric boat and on par with combustion engine boats.

“But the wings also give Candela Seven jet fighter-like performance.”

The boat takes about 12 hours to fully recharge.

The video shows the Candela Seven on a 39-minute evening trip through the Stockholm archipelago, cutting through the light swell with little effort, and even crossing through the wake of a passing ferry with only a little bit of movement.

Even following in the wake of the ferry, the Candela Seven is able to stay up on the foils, with the driver saying the worst that could happen was the hull would land on the water and the boat would have to get back up on the foils again.

The boat has even pulled a waterskier while it was sitting up on the foils.

The Candela Seven officially entered series production earlier this year. It is already reaching out to Australian buyers.
