Electric hydrofoil glides over the water by harnessing technology taken from a Polestar passenger car.
Attendees at the looming Sydney Harbour Concours d’Elegance motoring celebration will be treated to a fusion of electric innovation, when an electric hydrofoil from Candela takes flight over the water by harnessing technology found within a Polestar electric car.
Candela distributor Carbon Yachts will be demonstrating the Candela C-8 Polestar edition with a series of ‘test flights’ at the event, which will be held at Sydney’s Cockatoo Island from February 28 to March 2.
Featuring the battery pack and charging technology taken from a Polestar 2 passenger car, along with a custom design, the Candela C-8 Polestar edition ‘flies’ above the water on computer-guided hydrofoils at high speeds, reducing its energy consumption by up to 80 per cent compared to a traditional motorboat.
It’s an incredible experience from any angle, as we discovered for ourselves when boatsales sampled the C-8 in Sweden last year.
Polestar and Candela say they “share a common ambition to accelerate the shift to sustainable electric mobility, while demonstrating the responsible choice can be desirable with cutting-edge design, sublime performance, and industry-leading innovation”.
Chris Hrones, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Carbon Yachts, says the partnership shines a light on the innovation currently at play in electric mobility.
“Concours d’Elegance is about celebrating icons; vehicles that define their time and push boundaries,” he says. “Candela and Polestar are showing how electric mobility is superior in performance, efficiency, comfort, and design.”
Polestar Australia Managing Director Scott Maynard says the partnership will see people think about electrification in new ways.
“Polestar partners with industry leaders who push the boundaries in their respective fields,” he says. “With the Candela C-8 now available in Australia, we’re delighted to be collaborating with Candela on the electric performance showcase at the Sydney Harbour Concourse d’Elegance.
“Our shared focus on sustainable performance and luxury is sure to wow visitors to the event and encourage visitors to see e-mobility in a new and exciting way.”
Polestar and Candela will also be discussing the collaboration on stage at Cockatoo Island on Sunday, March 2, under the day’s banner of ‘Electronique, Past and Future’.
