Canberra GFC Yellowfin Tuna Tournament

Annual tuna fest on at Bermagui this weekend!

It’s that time of the year once again. The 33rd Annual Yellowfin Tournament will be held this weekend, May 17-19.

This year’s Lucky Angler draw features a Haines Hunter 400 Prowler with 30hp Honda marine outboard motor and trailer with 12 months Haines Hunter insurance. And there’s also a cash shootout on Sunday.

More than 100 mainly trailerboats, bristling with tackle, packed with pilchards, and crewed by keen anglers, will put to sea for the annual Canberra Yellowfin Tournament at Bermagui.

The otherwise sleepy fishing town on the NSW South Coast will be thronging with anglers keen to catch the biggest yellowfin tuna and the prizes.

The event is expected to attract more than 100 boats and up to 400 anglers for the three full days of fishing that inevitably leads to some solid yellowfin tuna captures, more and more southern bluefin tuna in recent times, plus mako and blue sharks.

In the tag-and-release categories, albacore, striped tuna and sharks dominate, as do the keen junior and small fry anglers battling them to the boat.

Organisers say that this year the competition will be just as keen, and the on-shore cameraderie just as much fun as previous years.
