The Friends of Corio Bay Action Group is holding a meeting this week to call for a ban on commercial fishing in Corio Bay. The meeting is to be held on Wednesday March 26 at St Albans Park Football Club, St Albans Road, Geelong at 6.00pm.
The Friends of Corio Bay say that the Bay has been devastated by netting and that thousands of people have noticed changes for the worse over the past decade.
The group maintains that commercial fishermen have no bag limits and that thousands of tonnes of by-catch and juvenile fish are killed each year and that the delicate ecosystems are being destroyed.
Presenter of iFish TV Paul Worsteling will be among the speakers at the meeting.
Friends of Corio Bay Action Group is also circulating a petition which it intends to present to the Government to have netting banned in all Victorian bays and estuaries.
