Buoyant over new Stabi-Craft

New Zealand's Department of Conservation is cheering over its new Stabi-Craft Marine 659 SuperCab, saying the craft's buoyancy has improved the organisation's daily operations

“While the majority of our work involves lakes, it can get quite rough out there, with swells of 1.5 to 2m,” said DOC ranger Maurice Wilke. “If our old boat filled up with water there was no flotation with it. It goes well and it’s certainly more stable than the monohull that we had.”

The boat will be used to access remote locations on Lake Rotorua for environmental purposes including checking the schools of kiwi birds. A low-pollution Yamaha 200hp four-stroke engine sits on the back of the Stabi-Craft.
