Suzuki engineers are reaping the rewards of their focus on light weight, power and fuel efficiency with the new 15A and 9.9A portable outboards. Weighing just 33kg, and featuring some great new engineering developments, the new 9.9 and 15 could well be the most advanced outboards in their class.
Sharing the same new gearcase as the popular DF15 and 20 gives users the distinct advantage of a traditional cooling water pick-up for easier flushing and better shallow-water operation. Furthermore, you gain access to a larger range of propellers to perfectly match your hull shape.
Up top, there is an easier-to-access thermostat conveniently mounted for servicing, a new cylinder-block design and revised cylinder porting to increase mid-range and low down performance.
The revised tilt system is much easier to operate, says Suzuki, and allows two shallow-water positions. It is accessed from the front of the engine rather than reaching around to the side.
Industry leading features from previous models include pointless electronic ignition, loop-charged intake, stainless steel water pump housing, and through-prop hub exhaust remain.
However, the outboards have undergone extensive refinement utilising what Suzuki calls the “latest finite element analysis techniques used across its entire product lines.”
The engines come with a three-year warranty and early testing locally has shown great acceleration, smoother operation and increased overall performance, says Suzuki importer The Haines Group.
John Hall, from lightweight cartopper manufacturer Ezy Topper/Cross Country boats, said it was the best 15hp two-stroke he’s experienced on his range of boats, and saw a real benefit from the shedding of weight.
“You can notice the difference as soon as you pick it up -- 5.5 kilos may not sound like a lot but for my customers it’s a massive improvement”, Hall.
The world’s lightest two-stroke 15hp Suzuki engine will be on display from September 6-9 at the 2013 Brisbane Boat Show, which returns to its historic home at the RNA Showgrounds.
There will also be the smart new DF15AT/20AT tilt models, the lightest weight of any power-tilt model in their class at 53.5 kilograms, which also boast the world’s first battery-less EFI system and the innovative Lean Burn technology.
A new 175hp Suzuki prototype or pre-production model also makes its Brisbane show debut, along with some key new Signature boats from the Haines Group.
The Haines Group has been the exclusive Australian and New Zealand distributor of Suzuki Marine outboard motors since 2001. The outboards are sold through a network of nearly 130 dealers across Australia and New Zealand.
