Organisers of the 2016 Brisbane Boat Show say visitors arrived in force over the weekend (August 20-21, 2016) to the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre at South Bank, with an official boat-show attendance figure of 12,300, which is up 40 per cent on last year, according to the Boating Industry Association (BIA).
The city venue was one of several key changes made this year to revitalise this key Queensland boat show with a history dating 56 years. On top of this, the show was presented by the new united national Boating Industry Association (BIA). It was also moved to a new date away from Fathers Day and reduced to three days.
Exhibitors were said to be "very pleased" with the levels of interest, with a healthy mix of both boat buyers and those new to the boating lifestyle.
"It was good to be back at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre and I am looking forward to a bigger and brighter 2017," said Nathan Nichols, Director of Wynnum Marine and boat manufacturer Cruise Craft. The Nichols Family have never missed exhibiting at the Brisbane show since it started in the early 1960s.
Howard Glenn, National Chief Executive Officer of the Boating Industry Association, said that the event was on target in so many ways.
"Apart from the healthy interest from those new to the lifestyle, retailers made solid sales and gathered sufficient leads to keep them busy for the weeks and months to come," Mr Glenn said.
"Manufacturers used the event to continue to study changing consumer tastes, and with this event at the doorstep of Australia’s manufacturing hub, it is ideal for doing that.
"Visitors to the show were also winners with the Boating Safety Zone a key point of interest, with Queensland government and volunteer agencies gathering to promote safe boating.
"The Entertainment Zone featured a host of boating and fishing experts, together with the occasional adventurer and sporting legend. Products across all sectors were in demand, and it looks like our waterways will be abuzz with new boaties very soon," he said.
The Brisbane Boat Show this year had 12,300 visitors and will return to the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre in 2017. More at
