American defence departments have awarded a US$36 million contract to Brunswick Commercial and Government Products (BCGP) to supply up to 60 purpose-built 32-foot and 37-foot Boston Whaler Justice boats to support counternarcotics sorties within Central America and the Caribbean.
The boats will be supplied over a four-year period to counter transnational-organised criminal networks in Latin America, says BCGP. Both models feature Boston Whaler's unsinkable Unibond construction, heavy-duty angled rub strakes and engine crash rails to prevent damage, as well as bow mounts for weapons.
In a preious test of their buoyancy, the United States Marine Corps unloaded 1,000 rounds of ammunition into the hull of a Boston Whaler boat. The 22-footer stayed afloat. You can see the action here
The new upgraded 32-foot Justice will be powered by twin Mercury Verado outboard engines and features twin bolster seats at the helm. The 37-foot Justice will be powered by triple Mercury Verado outboard engines and includes an integrated bow thruster for manoeuvrability, plus a climate-controlled cabin with head and berth. Both models include shock-mitigating seats in the cockpit for crew safety and comfort in rough seas.
“These models are fast and extremely durable — a perfect match for their mission," said BCGP'ss General Manager, Jennifer Butera.
