Bonito 522 Calais

The Bonito range is Hookum's first foray into monohull production. One of Australia's better known catamaran designers, Hookum is best known for his Dominator range of cats.

The Bonitos all share the same fibreglass 5.22m hull with a generous 2.23m beam and a 21° deadrise to ensure a soft stable ride. The hull design incorporates strakes designed to give maximum lift, dryness and stability in turns and at rest, NSW distributor Ian Tricker, from TR Marine says.

With interiors and layouts adapted to suit the Australian market, the current four-model Markham Bonito range includes a 522 Sport, Pro Fish Half Cabin, Bowrider Runabout and the Calais Cuddy Cabin featured here.

The layout and cabin provision on the 522 Calais is aimed at the family boat owner, with a fully-lined and upholstered cabin offering comfort for longer days onboard.

The cabin features a roomy V-berth and is ventilated by a cabin hatch, Tricker told Trailer Boat.

The cockpit layout is also designed to appeal to the family with an uncluttered layout and range of storage options, provided underfloor and via the fully-lined cockpit shelves.

A wraparound one-piece windscreen provides protection at the helm. A sliding swivel bucket helm and passenger seats are mounted on fibreglass storage bases. Further storage is provided underfloor between the two seats. Upholstered wraparound quarter seats are fitted aft.

The Calais' dash layout features a range of gauges, including speedo, tacho, hour meter, trim and fuel. Hydraulic steering is available as an option.

Standard features on the Bonito 522 Calais include two ski hooks, drink holders, bow roller and rope locker and hatch.

It is priced at $29,000 including trailer and 90hp Mercury outboard.

The Deluxe version has a $30,500 pricetag for the boat, motor, trailer package.

It includes a two-tone hull, windscreen grabrail, bilge pump, fuel gauge and sender, navigation lights and a range of other extras.
