The Bureau of Meteorology has updated its BOM Weather app with a slew of new marine-focused features including a number of tweaks that will help boaters and fishers.
The major release, rolled out this week as version 4.1.0, includes marine data for locations that are close to water to help boaters plan coastal and local water activities.
The BOM Weather app has even expanded to include basic moon phases – just the phase is mentioned, not the percentage – as part of the forecast.
Users will notice that maximum wind gusts will now be updated each hour for up to 72 hours into the future, with users able to tap on the number to switch between kilometres an hour and knots.
The BOM Weather app will now provide three-hourly total wave heights, and daily waters forecasts that will include tide times.
Users can also save and view their favourite boating and fishing locations, and pan and zoom on rain radar maps.
The weather forecast will also move with your mobile device to give an updated weather forecast for wherever your current location happens to be.
The app can also now scale the size of its text to make it easier to read on the move.
