After something unique that no other boat owner will have? You’d be hard-pressed to go past this Van Diemen Sports Limousine that has popped up in the boatsales.com.au listings.
This is a special boat, built out of aluminium by Van Diemen Marine’s Launceston factory as a smaller version of the Star 888, an 11.0-metre version of this boat that was used to ferry people to and from Sydney’s Star Casino.
But the 7.5-metre boat’s showpiece, apart from its spectacular centre console and welcoming bow lounge, is a hydraulically adjusted hardtop that can sit in one of three positions.
If the weather is fine, the hardtop can extend fully upright and the wrap-around windscreen can stow to allow the elements to flow inside while providing sun protection for the helm. Another setting will fully seal the hardtop and windscreen to provide a weatherproof cuddy cabin, while on its lowest setting, the windscreen drops away and the hardtop seals off the bow lounge space against all the elements – and people – while the boat is underway or stowed.
This thing is built like a pocket sports yacht, with the bow lounge featuring plenty of below-lounge storage space, a walk-through transom that seals via a pair of pull-out gates, a large icebox, a drop-down gunnel door for easy side deck access, and a wrap-around dash on the centre console.
Power comes via a 260hp Volvo Penta D4 diesel sterndrive Duoprop showing less than 100 hours on the gauge, providing fast but economical 35 knot-plus cruising.
This particular boat is also built to be trailered, with a beam of only 2.45 metres. Underneath it is an extremely seaworthy hull, with a bow thruster helping with low-speed shunts around marinas, making use of that versatile transom.
The helm includes a 12-inch Raymarine multifunction display and radio, Fusion audio system, and chrome-rimmed analogue instrumentation.
Folded down, the stowed hardtop means the Van Diemen Luxury Craft Sports Limousine 7.5 measures only 2.0 metres high, although the mast with lights fitted to this boat will also need to come down.
The price? The Van Diemen Luxury Craft Sports Limousine 7.5 could all be yours for $188,990.
