The Victorian branch of the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard has issues a Securite to all mariners in Port Phillip Bay. Given the imminent start of the snapper season, and the stellar fishing in the bay already, there will be quite a few rec boaters and fishers who should take note.
A large amount of rescue equipment from an aircraft training exercise has become adrift in Port Phillip and is now a hazard to navigation.
The missing objects are located at: S38 04.388, E144 52.486 (approx. 20km off Carrum).
Objects are approximately 30kg in weight and up to five metres in length, including a large drum of equipment with a sea anchor. If you locate these items please call 000 immediately reporting your current location.
Underway, and at speed, these items have the potential to create serious damage to your vessel and potentially your crew.
This notice was posted by the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard with copies to Southern Peninsula Rescue Squad, VMR Mornington & Hastings - Volunteer Marine Rescue inc Victoria Police CFA (Country Fire Authority), Victoria State Emergency Service, Port of Melbourne and more.
