On August 26, Scarlet Runner a Reichel Pugh 52 owned by Robert Date from Melbourne arrived in Sydney completing a race program that took the yacht and its crew on a circumnavigation of the world and took over a year to complete.
The yacht left Melbourne last winter and was last in Sydney for the start of the 2013 Sydney to Southport and has sailed on her own bottom across the Indian, Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
After the Sydney to Southport, she sailed for South Africa where she competed in the Cape Town to Rio race where she got a very creditable second place, to the 70ft Masarati (pictured). Then it was on to St Thomas race week, St Barths race week, Antigua race week. Then it was the Guadeloupe to Antigua race (first).
She next competed in the Around Antigua race (second) and travelled through the Panama Canal to San Francisco where she started in the Pacific Cup from San Francisco to Hawaii and scored a first in her division and first overall.
The boat was then sailed across the Pacific to Sydney to complete the lap of the globe.
The boat captain Brett Averay and the crew of Rowan 'Disco' Leaper and Tim Kenner have been with her all the way.
She will be at CYCA for a few days before she heads on to her home at the Sandringham Yacht Club in Melbourne where she is expected on Monday 1 September.
Welcome home celebrations will take place in the Members’ Bar of SYC on Friday 19 September.
