This year, 20 apprentice boatbuilders and marine mechanics graduated from Melbourne's three main marine educational institutions.
Family and friends joined in the celebrations as the graduates from Victoria University, Kangan Batman TAFE and Chisholm TAFE were officially welcomed to the boating industry.
Boatbuilder Neville Whittley of Whittley Marine Group presented each graduate with a personalised certificate. Although only 10 graduates could make it on the night, all of them receive the certificate officially welcoming them to the industry.
This year, Power Equipment Pty Ltd, Australian distributor of Yanmar, Mase and Gori, threw its support behind the night as the official sponsor.
BIAV president, Gordon Howlett, officially hosted the event and thanked Power Equipment for its support and highlighted the value of trained people for the future of the industry.
"The sponsorship ensures we can give our new graduates a fitting welcome," said Howlett.
"These skilled new boatbuilders, mechanics and technicians are crucial to our industry's long term success," he said.
