BIAV Steps Up Over Skills Shortage
The Boating Industry Association of Victoria (BIAV) has launched ‘Jobs for Victorians in the Boating Industry', a major recruitment and training program to fill gaps in industry skills locally, rather than importing skilled workersChief executive officer Lindsay Grenfell said the program would address both the short and long-term needs of the marine industry and the Australian workforce.
“Although importing skilled workers can provide a ‘quick fix’ in some industries, even the marine industry, we believe it is in everyone’s interests to recruit and train locally wherever possible,” Grenfell said.
“We have therefore tapped into state and commonwealth government programs to engage a marine employment and training broker and our target is to fill 50 positions with suitably skilled Victorian job seekers within the next year.”
A project manager will coordinate the placement of job seekers into sustainable long-term employment to fill important skills gaps within the Victorian recreational boating industry.
Job seekers will receive pre-employment training.
