BIAQ Welcomes Boat Ramp Boost
The Boating Industry Association of Queensland has welcomed a Queensland state government announcement that it will spend more than $40 million to build, upgrade and maintain public boat ramps around the state over the next three yearsBIAQ general manager Barry Hibberd said 50 ramps had been built in the state in the last nine years.
“For a number of years, the BIAQ has been asking the government to boost spending so public facilities like ramps, jetties and pontoons could keep pace with public demand and growth in boating registrations,” he said.
He said the announcement, that the program would help keep pace with the rapid growth of recreational boat ownership and waterways use, was an indication that the government was listening.
Hibberd said more than 203,635 boats were registered in Queensland.
