Better boating for all?
Join the on-line survey to make NSW boating better for everyoneTransport for NSW is calling on recreational boaters and maritime stakeholders to help shape plans to improve major waterways across the state.
The Maritime Management Centre within Transport for NSW, together with Roads and Maritime Services, is reviewing and seeking views on existing boating infrastructure, facilities and safety measures for all major boating regions in NSW.
Maritime Management Centre General Manager Howard Glenn said this important work is about identifying the priority projects and actions over the coming years in order to keep our waterways safe and accessible for everyone to enjoy.
"To do this properly, we need to hear from the people who use these waterways the most. This includes our everyday recreational boaters, members of the maritime industry and anyone else with an interest in the state’s waterways," Mr Glenn said.
Mr Glenn said to kick-start the process, key user groups are being provided with details of consultation dates for 11 regions covering:
>> The Tweed
>> Mid North Coast
>> Taree, Great Lakes
>> Port Stephens and Hunter
>> Lake Macquarie and Tuggerah Lakes
>> Sydney Harbour
>> Botany Bay and Georges River
>> Shoalhaven and Illawarra
>> Far South Coast
>> Murray-Riverina
"The project team will initially be meeting with relevant local councils and conducting focus groups with peak organisations to get an understanding of the key issues in each region," Mr Glenn said.
"Everyday boaters, local sporting organisations and other local groups will be able to have their say by taking part in an online survey.
"All of the feedback we receive will help us produce draft boating plans for each region. We will then visit each region to talk to the community so people will have another chance to look at and provide feedback to the plans before they are bedded down," Mr Glenn said.
"It is expected that the boating plans for each region will be finalised well before next summer’s boating season."
