Bermuda Aluminium 480 Island Shore

Designed for boaters moving up from an open dinghy, the Bermuda 480 Island Shore has been redesigned for 1999

A conventional runabout, the craft now incorporates a rounded pod transom to provide additional buoyancy to accommodate increasingly popular four-stroke outboards.

In fact, as four-stroke outboards are marginally heavier than two-strokes, Bermuda has introduced the rounded pod design to the transom of all its models from 4.8m and above.

"With the additional weight of a four-stroke engine hanging way out the back of the boat, hull performance at speed and rest was being affected," Bermuda says.

Built by Queensland manufacturer Quintrex, the 480 Island Shore is designed as a true all-rounder. It has hull design and engine power to tow skiers, an open cockpit for fishos and enough seating to accommodate the family for a day cruising, says Bermuda.

The new craft replaces the 480R Islander.

The lightweight craft requires little effort to launch or to tow and is ideal rig for your local lake or river or bay, the company states.

Measuring 4.80m with a 2.10m beam, the Island Shore has a moderate deadrise V-bottom aluminium hull with 3.0mm bottom and 2.0mm topsides. It is rated to carry outboards to 75hp.

Bermuda says the high sides give a safety feature for family boaters.

The flat cockpit floor is fitted with a range of stowage options to keep the area uncluttered.

Twin upholstered swivel seats are located up front for driver and passenger. A moulded dash is rigged with factory-fitted instrumentation including engine gauges.

The deck has an open anchor locker with access gained from inside the cockpit through a centre-opening windscreen. At the bow is a low split bowrail. This provides a solid hand-hold when tying up or anchoring.

Underfloor foam flotation is a standard safety feature.

Other standard features include rodholders, side grabrails and navigation lights.

The 480 Island Shore is designed and equipped at the factory as a turnkey ready-to-go rig, however, Bermuda syas the package also allows boaters to mix and match the options to suit individual preferences.
