Leading medium-speed engine manufacturer, Bergen Engines, has granted Penske Australia & New Zealand the distribution rights to its marine engine portfolio in the region, building on an existing agreement for Bergen’s land-based product range.
Penske Australia & New Zealand will now offer Bergen’s full range of medium-speed engines, with power outputs from 1.4 to 12MW, for both land and marine applications.
The updated partnership was officially signed earlier this year during a visit from Penske Australia & New Zealand to Bergen Engines’ headquarters in western Norway.
Bergen’s marine portfolio propels naval, large tugs, fishing vessels, ferries and cruise ships, as well as offshore oil and gas installations.
“With a very successful partnership to date with Bergen Engines, we are excited to be extending our relationship and expanding our customer offering,” said Matthew Smith, executive general manager of off-highway for Penske Australia & New Zealand.

“Now proudly representing Bergen on land and at sea, the addition of the Bergen marine portfolio also allows us to offer our marine customers regional support and complements our current offering of Rolls-Royce Power Systems’ mtu brand of engines.”
As part of its commitment to decarbonising the energy sector, Bergen Engines is actively researching future fuels, such as methanol and biofuels, with a particular focus on the marine market.
The company is also working to develop the world’s first 100 per cent hydrogen-fuelled medium-speed engine.
