Beneteau Oceanis Clipper 311

The Clipper 311's GRP laminated hull measures 9.85m by 3.23m, and was designed by Group Finot as a true all-rounder.

Rigged to be easily managed by the cruising couple, it also has the liveaboard credentials to comfortably accommodate a family.

The underside has a lifting bulb keel that weighs around 300kg with cast iron external ballast. The system enables the craft to be dried, resting on the winged forward part of the external ballast sole and on the two solid rudders.

The 311 is rigged to carry 50sqm upwind, divided between the mainsail with long battens and the moderate overlap furling genoa. The rigid boom vang and quick reefing system (lazy jacks and cover come as standard), ensures the mainsail is easy to control, according to Beneteau.

When it is dead calm, the diesel engine, rated up to 20hp, with a driveshaft protection moulded into the hull can take over in safety.

On deck, simplicity and efficiency is the main theme. The cockpit is fitted with slatted teak seats to port and starboard. The area remains uncluttered, with the mainsheet traveller positioned on the coachroof, with the boom vang. The genoa sheet winches are within reach of the helmsman. The purchaser can specify tiller or a console-mounted wheel steering.

The companionway with 1.85m headroom has curved moulded GRP steps with antislip treads. A two-part varnished wood door keeps the interior area secure.

Below decks is accommodation for four people with an aft cabin to port. This has a double berth that measures 2.0 x 1.95m which lets guests choose between sleeping sideways or lengthways.

The forward cabin has a V-shaped double berth measuring 2.0 x 1.4m, and features large hanging and side lockers.

To starboard of the companionway is a head compartment, fitted with a marine toilet, washbasin, shower, cupboard and hanging locker.

The symmetrical saloon consists of two long settees.

The galley is to port, fitted with gimballed cooker/grill, 12V refrigerator, stainless steel sink with pressurised hot and cold water system. Ample stowage provides room for all the cooking implements, cutlery and crockery necessary for extended stays onboard.

Just before the saloon is a chart table for the navigator to check the route and consult onboard electronics fitted on the bulkhead along the hull.
