Not known for straying too far from the world's gastronomic delights, the French by way of boatbuilder Beneteau and five Michelin-starred chefs have joined forces to launch the new Swift Trawler 30.
The smallest of the popular French 'trawlers', designed for pleasure cruising and entertaining, will make a splash with a bunch of 'hatted' chefs on a gastronomical tour of inland France.
According to the invite in our inbox, this fluvial journey will be staged along the inland waterways to reveal the attributes of the new Swift Trawler 30, reveal some Michelin recipes along the way, and collectively provide a window into the world of French boating.
On April 24, the launch event starts at the seaside resort town of Deauville on the Côte Fleurie on France’s Lower Normandy region. In late May, the promotional voyage ends in Sete, another coastal town, described as the Venice of the Languedoc for its canal network.
There will be five gourmet stopovers between Deauville and Sète. Essentially this is the recipe offered by Beneteau:
Beneteau says the lucky ones — we're unsure who that might be at this stage but we had an invite — will "enjoy one of the dinners invented on board by a Michelin-starred chef while relishing your fluvial crossing."
The big French boatbuilder says the global boating public will be able to follow each gourmet stopover and discover the chefs' recipes — to cook them on board or at home — via its website and Facebook page.
The person behind this promotion is Guy Lassausaie, Meilleur ouvrier de France (Best craftsman in France) in 1993, and owner of the Chasselay 2 Michelin stars restaurant.
The new Swift Trawler 30, the smallest of the latest generation of long-cruising motorboats designed by Beneteau, is said to "exude the pedigree of a line uniting maritime adventure with a long-cruising culture."
Cut out for the high seas, or that so-called fluvial navigation, the Swift Trawler 30 is bound to be comfortable gadding about the inland waterways.
"Her autonomy and many fittings are reassuring, making life on board that much easier," says Beneteau.
Especially after some snails and a bottle of Burgundy!
Vive le difference. Bon voyage. We're following this one very closely.
