The smallest Bayliner bowrider with inboard power has made a return to the price-conscience trailerboat market. But not before time.
The 175 BR has held the mantle of world’s best-selling fibreglass boat for the last 10 years, claims Bayliner.
The recipe for its success is simple. The 175 BR maximises onboard deck space, adds easy handling, a keen ticket price, and strong local backing, says importers Berowra Waters Wholesale (BWW).
You can drive-away a 2012-model (released locally late last year) 175 BR with 135hp MerCruiser, on American-made Karavan trailer, with bow cover, bimini, safety gear, and registrations for $29,990.
The beam-forward hull, with a moderate 19 degrees of deadrise at the transom, maximises seating and offers a decent amount of internal freeboard and buoyancy to keep the family safe on harbours and none-too-rough bays.
The aft jump seats flank a newly redesigned engine box for a quieter ride, with fire-extinguisher port, tie-downs for securing tubes, and a flat, recessed surface that doubles as an alfresco lunch table.
The driver has a bucket seat before a simplified two (multifunction) dial dash, while the passengers get back-to-back seats that fold flat into a daybed. There are more cup holders, we’re told.
As with any trailerboat, storage is important. Multiple compartments in the floor, under seats, in the hull sides using nets, and a ski locker should swallow all your safety, watersports and picnic gear.
The 135hp MPI MerCruiser petrol inboard delivers 34.5 knots (64 km/h) at wide open throttle and about 21-22 knots (40km/h) cruise for a range of 73 nautical miles (135km) from the 79.5 litre tank.
The Bayliner 175 BR comes with an optional flight package adding graphics, a tower and integrated bimini. Equipped this way, the 175 BR could be the ideal, affordable, social wakeboarding boat.
