Bavaria Yachts has bought the Greenline Neo range of day cruisers from its Slovenian rival as it makes a strategic move into outboard engine-powered models.
The surprise deal was announced in the wake of the 2020 Boot Dusseldorf boat show in Germany. Under the terms of the handover, the first Bavaria-built Neo model is expected to go into production at the German boatyard in September.
“In recent years the market segment for day cruisers with outboards has grown strongly, particularly in the USA and Europe, and will continue to grow in the coming years,” Bavaria Yachts chief executive Michael Meuller said.
“With our new day cruiser, we want to tap further customer groups and complete our portfolio of models.
“Due to the acquisition of the Neo concept and its further development, we will be able to present a new model as early as this year,” he said.
Under the terms of the deal, Bavaria will take over all the moulds and tools to build the Neo boats. The boat will also be renamed to fall in line with Bavaria’s showroom.
Greenline Neo models were launched in Australia last year by local distributor eYachts. Models include a sedan, hard top and Open – the latter has not yet been added to Australian showrooms – and powered by either twin 300hp outboard engines, or twin 80hp Torqueedo Deep Blue electric outboard motors.
Bavaria said its development team would trim the new day cruiser to suit its buyers until series production starts.
“The deck and interior are to be optimised and adapted to Bavaria's DNA,” it said. “Outboards with twin 300hp are planned for the propulsion system. Bavaria Yachts will only announce the new brand name for the Bavaria day cruiser line in the spring.”
Bavaria Yachts is rebuilding itself after falling into financial trouble last year.
The boat-maker launched two new models at the 2020 Boot Dusseldorf; the Bavaria C42 sailing yacht and the Bavaria SR41 motor yacht.
Greenline's sale of the Neo line of day boats also means it reverts to being a completely hybrid-engined boat brand.
