The new Bavaria Yachts Cruiser 45, predicted to set the benchmark for modern, mid-sized production cruisers, will make her Australian and Asian boat show debut at next month’s Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show on the Queensland Gold Coast.
Designed by Farr Yacht Design in collaberation with BMW DesignworksUSA, the new yacht features twin rudders, flush forward decks, a deep keel, a big lowering swimming platform on the stern and a modern sail plan.
Options include Selden in-mast roller furling for the main, a self tacking jib and a choice of three interior wood colours.
But perhaps the biggest surprise is the choice of interior layouts. The yacht can be delivered with either three or four double cabins. The four cabin layout is a flexible design that can be converted back to three cabins should the need arise.
The managing director of the Bavaria Yachts importer, North South Yachting, Bob Mulkearns was knocked out when he saw the Cruiser 45 earlier this year at the Dussledorf boat show.
"We are very excited about this model as it represents a real stride forward in this size range," says Mulkearns. "With the option of three or four double cabins, it suits a variety of market requirements and we are confident that as a Farr designed yacht it will be pretty quick. It should suit both racing and cruising sailors."
Mulkearns says Bavaria's economies of scale and efficient production mean the Cruiser 45 is fantastic value.
"It is well within the range of buyers of say 42-43 foot yachts," he says, adding, "They will get real bang for their buck and a bigger boat to boot."
The Cruiser 45 slots between Bavaria Yachts very successful Cruiser 32 and Cruiser 55.
Patrick Shaughnessy, president of Farr Yacht Design, says it is not easy to be the middle of a family. "The oldest gets the praise and the youngest gets the attention," he says, "The middle child has to go out and do the hard work to get recognised. The Bavaria Cruiser 45 is a boat designed to do that hard work and do it very well."
