Formerly called Project BA10, Bavaria's new semi-displacement 40ft motor yacht has been baptised the E40.According to Bavaria, the E in the name stands for Economic, Ecologic, Exploring, Efficent and Emotional.
The first prototype will be ready in (Euro) spring 2016. Bavaria says that classic contemporary design, a clever space concept and efficiency were the central themes of the first development steps.
There will be sedan and a flybridge versions of the E40, and it will be available in two- or three-cabin layouts.
Interestingly, the boat will feature a central helm station in its spacious saloon and there will be a large dining suite and full-equipped gourmet galley.
Below decks, the E40 will have a big owner's suite forward with ensuite and plenty of storage and the concept of space will flow to the other cabins further aft. Windows and big hatches will create a light and bright ambience, we're told.
The E40 will be semi displacement motor yacht designed not for speed, but for economical cruising, safety, and comfort. Engines will from Volvo Penta with outputs of between 75 and 300hp plus a hybrid propulsion system. The design, engine, gearing, and propellers of the Bavaria E40 have already been thoroughly tested, and tuned by computer simulations in a lengthy series of experiments to ensure ultra-low fuel consumption.
The hybbrid system comes from a collaboration between Bavaria Yachtbau GmbH and Italian company Transfluid Trasmissioni Industriali. The Italian company from Gallarate has almost 60 years of experience in building power transmissions for industry and vehicles. However, it's in the field of hybrid systems for marine applications that Transfluid engineers and technicians have a wealth of experience.
With new system, the skipper can switch from diesel to electric power, or use the booster mode in which both propulsion systems are used together, without the need to stop the boat. Only a simple button is required for the innovative Transfluid hybrid system to switch between modes.
We can't wait to test it out and we'll keep you posted on more information about the E40 as it comes to hand.
