South Australian fisherman, author and editor of SA Angler, Shane Mensforth, has taken delivery of a Bar Crusher 640HT which will be his publication's project boat for the next two years.
With a Honda BF200 on the stern and a range of Lowrance HDS electronics installed, Mensforth plans to tow his Bar Crusher, mounted on an Easytow trailer, to all parts of the country in pursuit of bluefin tuna, sharks and kingfish.
Mensforth says he started looking for a new boat early this year and that he did "a mountain of homework" before settling on the Bar Crusher.
"With a heap of long-range work on the agenda, especially wide of Port Lincoln, we needed a rig that would take us to the off-shore reefs and islands and back again, safely and economically," Mensforth says.
"We do a lot of fishing for southern bluefin tuna, samson fish, sharks and yellowtail kingfish, most of which are found a long way from port. So the boat has to offer a big fuel range and the sort of performance we could rely on if we got caught in bad weather."
Mensforth says that he knew the Bar Crusher 640HT was the right boat after testing it on a nasty day off Adelaide.
"Soft ride, exceptional stability at rest and super tough construction were the stand-out features.
"As far as the powerplant went, the Honda BF200 was an obvious choice. The Honda is the perfect power for the Bar Crusher hull and we will be relying on it during our offshore sorties," added Mensforth.
