The Balmain Regatta is one of Sydney's oldest sporting events. It was first held in 1849 and continued until 1934, when it was discontinued until its revival in 1994 by the Wooden Boat Association.
Today, the Balmain Sailing Club runs the Balmain Regatta annually on the last Sunday in October. It's a real celebration of sailing, of Balmain and of Sydney's maritime heritage.
The event attracts over 150 vessels on the water, from 12 Metre America's Cup contenders to the historic, timber 18 Footers.
It's the greatest spectacle on the water west of the Harbour Bridge and a fun family day hosted by the BSC. Whether you're afloat or on shore, there is fun happening all day.
This year, the Balmain Regatta will be held on Sunday, October 27. And this year, the regatta will incorporate a full day of sailing and boating fun; classic skiff races, the Watermans Race, dinghy, classic and modern yacht races.
In addition, crews representing Balmain’s local pubs and services will be racing on BSC yachts, with entertainment, food and a bar provided at the Club throughout the day.
Entry is open to anyone with a yacht or dinghy who would like to race in this historic event. As well as Balmain Sailing Club entries, boats representing surrounding clubs are encouraged to participate, with an inter-club challenge in the dinghy fleet.
The Balmain Sailing Club welcomes neighbours, families, friends and visitors to join in the fun at the club during the day. The Water St. Reserve next door to the clubhouse makes a great picnic and viewing area.
