Australia's oldest sailing regatta, first held in 1849 -- returns to the western Sydney Harbour this weekend, with up to 150 boats on the water, and heaps to see and do on land.
Highlights will be:
• The participation of three classic America's Cup 12 Metre-class boats, Gretel II, Steak'N'Kidney and Australia, who will be racing in the Cockatoo Island Classic Cup
• Also competing in the regatta will be the X-Yacht Xpress, which this week hosted Denmark's Prince Frederick on a harbour race during his and Princess Mary's visit to Sydney
• The spectacular sight of up to 150 yachts and dinghies, from historic 18 foot and 12 foot skiffs, along classic yachts dating back to the 1920s, to modern sports boats, all racing around the waters surrounding Balmain, Cockatoo Island and Goat Island.
The fun starts at 11.00am and runs until 6.00pm.
Balmain Sailing Club's "Regatta Radio", with commentary from Club Commodore Angela Catterns and Ian Rogerson, will be streaming live from the club's website (www.balmainsailingclub.com), from 11.00am.
