Back Cove 41

New flagship Back Cove with Down East styling and single-diesel engine economy heading our way
EMarine, the Australian agents for Back Cove and Sabre motoryachts built in Maine, has confirmed the first 41 will arrive in Sydney in mid-2015. In keeping with the fleet, the new flagship of the Back Cove range is powered by a single diesel engine from 600-720hp, with bow and stern thrusters for close-quarters manoeuvring.
The Back Cove 41 has been a bit hit overseas since its launch earlier this year and subsequent boat-show unveilings. The single-engine economy makes dollars and sense, while the layout is well suited to escaping with your family or another couple.
“The purposeful design incorporates two cabins [the aft sleeping arrangement is athwartships], each with its own head and shower. Side-by-side Stidd helm Seats are standard equipment and a side-opening door allows easy, quick access to her side decks for safety and convenience,” EMarine’s Jed Elderkin adds.
The large cockpit of the 41-footer can be fitted with an optional Sure Shade retractactable awning for escaping the Australian sun and the practical outdoor area boasts plenty of space around the twin inbuilt aft-seating arrangements, each with a table for doing lunch.
As with all Back Coves, the 41 flaunts classic Down East styling lines. The internal helm deck has an aft galley opposite a large social seating area and dinette. Abundant storage is featured throughout, including a dedicated underfloor area amidships for all your cruising stores.
DESIGNER KEVIN BURNS
Designed by Kevin Burns and the Back Cove Yachts team, this new 41 model takes comfortable cruising to a whole new level, Elderkin says, with all the attributes of the Back Cove brand, such as a single shaftdrive diesel, deep-vee hull, wide walkaround decks with great handholds and bright open and airy cabin space.
The hull, stringers and deck are resin infused, while our previous experiences with the Back Cove brand from Maine have revealed high engineering standards and inventories that include all the big-name quality gear.
SINGLE DIESEL SHAFTDRIVE
The factory performance data reveals the 41-footer with single 720hp Volvo D11 (or Cummins QSM11) diesel engine will hit almost 30 knots and cruises anywhere from 18-19 knots for 60 litres/hour and a 420nm range to 26 knots for a 340nm range at about 100 litres/hour.
The first new Back Cove 41 in Australia will be fitted with the standard 600hp Cummins QSC 8.3. We understand the owners are coming out of a custom centre-cockpit cruising yacht and appreciate the styling, utility, layout, single diesel-engine efficiency, and comforts.
“The new 41 offers exceptional economy of operation without sacrificing performance and cruise speeds in excess of 20 knots are achieved with standard power,” Elderkin adds.
