Carpe diem. Seize the day. Evidently, that is what more and more boaters are doing these days. Among the latest boat builders to seize on that news is Back Cove.
The Maine-based lobster boat yard will release drawings and information for a new Back Cove 37 Day Boat at this week's Fort Lauderdale Boat Show. The Back Cove 37 Day Boat will be launched in the Northern Hemisphere summer of 2013.
This new model is based on the successful Back Cove 37 hull but, instead of two cabins and plenty of interior living spaces, it has one cabin and a smaller below-deck plan.
The advantage is a vast and open single-level cockpit and helm deck for more casual day boating and weekending.
The line drawings and layout of the boat in the accompanying renderings should resonate with Australian boaters. After all, we like our cockpits and entertaining spaces b-i-g.
We’ve already had discussions with the local Back Cove importer E Marine about what we’d add to our Back cove 37 Day Boat.
We agreed we need a barbecue or, better still, a barbecue module incorporating wet bar and good-size fridge, perhaps facing the cockpit behind the starboard L-shaped seat. A well-built custom awning would cast much-needed shade over the cockpit lunch setting, too.
Down below, Back Cove says the boat will have one very comfortable sleeping cabin with island berth, an enclosed head and separate shower stall, and a modest galley with good storage.
But the idea is to offer loads of helm deck and cockpit seating space and to bring to market a Back Cove that sums up the way many families are spending their days on the water. Think modest accommodation and maximum social space. It looks like you could fish from it, too.
We hear there have been discussion about Herreshoff-style white interior finishes with timber trim strips and teak gunwales around the cockpit.
Final pricing and specifications are in the pipeline. Tooling operations to create the new deck and windshield parts are already underway. More at www.emarine.com.au.
