The Back Cove 32 is the latest model to be launched in a range that spans more than 700 builds in just 14 years. To be splashed in 2017, the 32 announced at the 2016 Miami boat show will slot nicely between the popular 30 and 34. Now. one of these new 32s has been sold into Sydney.
The Maine boatbuilder says the all-new model is an amalgam of design ideas from discussions with current and prospective owners about the way they go boating today.
That said, the Back Cove 32 clearly boasts the attributes that stand behind the successful range to date. These include great fuel efficiency from a single electronic diesel engine, straight forward systems, and rugged good looks based on the brand’s Down East heritage.
Back Cove says while on-deck spaces are designed for entertaining with family and friends, the cosy and luxurious interior suits the needs of the cruising couple. The skilled Maine craftsmen and women will create a warm and inviting interior using American cherry, finely finished with satin varnish.
Local Back Cove importer Jed Elderkin from E Marine Motor Yachts visited the 2016 Miami Boat Show to deliver the news of this new 32 (and see the new Sabre 66 Dirigo by the Back Cove builders) back to his Australian customer base.
Elderkin is excited by the prospects of the Back Cove 32 given how popular the 30 and 34 have been to date. He's now sold the first of these new 32s to a Pittwater boater in Sydney, where it will work just beautifully on the local waterways.
"A couple of things stand out about this boat. Kevin Burns, the designer, commented on the fact that the Down East 37 with flush cockpit and helm deck has really resonated with buyers. This feature has been carried across to this smaller 32. There’s no step from transom to companionway," explains Elderkin.
"The hull is a bit deeper and the rear seating arrangement is created with a surrounded rail for safety, which together allow the deck to be flush. The hull form is infused and incorporates a lot of things that have been learnt over 15 years of building Back Coves.
"The early boats had a rounded prop tunnel, but the evolution that has appeared on the 41, with more sharp angles around the tunnel, has lead to increased efficiency, quieter operation and less cavitation in hard turns. The new boats are also said to be drier with more bow flare carried further aft."
The standard engine in the 32 will be a single 370hp twin-turbo Yanmar V8 diesel, with a 370hp D6 Volvo Penta option. The boats come standard with a bowthruster and just about all Back Coves imported today have a stern thruster as well.
The saloon has a galley-up and dinette that converts to a double berth, with the stateroom below decks and including an island queen bed in the bow, full headroom, abundant storage, and a split head and separate full shower stall.
"The great run continues for Back Cove with vessels of fine style and quality, with safety and economy, and with excellent performance from a single diesel engine up to 30 knots," Elderkin adds.
We're told one US dealer from Florida has already ordered four Back Cove 32s for stock. There are now 50 Back Coves sold into Australia. More from E Marine Motor Yachts at E Marine Motor Yachts.
