Italian luxury-boat builder Azimut says its new Atlantis 43 is destined to be the standout in the popular and competitive European sportsyacht class occupied by Princess, Sunseeker, et al.
Bold and sporty on the outside, cool and refined on the inside, the latest Atlantis is said to be "unadulterated Italian design and content."
Filling a niche between existing Atlantis 38 and 50 footers, the 43 is a big step up from the baby in the range, the impressive Atlantis 34 (http://www.boatpoint.com.au/content/reviews/2014/sports-cruiser/atlantis/34/atlantis-34-43807) we last tested.
The freedom to select prestigious Italian designer fabrics from Missoni, Armani and Loro Piana will surely add to the appeal of this new 43, which is set to make its world premiere at the Du¨sseldorf Boatshow on January 17.
DECKED OUT
- Electric soft top and daybed, garage and more
The open layout of the 43 has a deck design that is said to be the boat's real centrepiece. Transformable and functional, it features two large three-person sun pads.
The large electric top offers weather protection, providing a welcoming and comfortable shelter, while an electric conversion on the co-pilot seat creates and instant daybed.
With a one-piece windshield and lateral picture windows, the Atlantis 43 offers “unprecedented amounts of natural light that can also be modulated thanks to the large, electrically operated soft top,” Azimut says.
The exterior living area is equipped with a large dining table, C-shaped sofa, and day-galley area. The daybed across from the helm quickly transforms into forward facing seating when cruising.
Measuring 3.5 square metres, and accessible via port and starboard steps, the swim platform is an “amazing terrace on the water” that can be used to launch the tender and other watertoys otherwise housed in the transom garage.
BIG TWIN CABINS
- This boat sleeps up to seven
Below decks, there is a full-height boatowner suite in the bow with abundant natural light thanks to the hatch and extensive hull windows. Stowage space has been made a priority and the en suite features a separate shower stall. Located astern, the guest cabin features sliding beds so you can choose between a queen or two twin singles, with the option of adding a third bed to port. The lower saloon is said to be comfortable and welcoming, with a sizeable and well-equipped galley, a dinette with a height-adjustable table that converts into an impromptu bed, and nearby access to the second dayhead/guest bathroom, which also includes another separate shower stall.
TWIN VOLVO PENTA D6s
- Twin 400hp diesels with sterndrives
The new Azimut Atlantis 43 is powered by twin 400hp Volvo Penta D6 engines with sterndrives for a maximum factory-stated speed of around 33 knots. The Azimut Atlantis importer, 5 Star Motor Cruisers in Pyrmont, Sydney, says the new 43 would be an ideal step-up from the 34.
"This is unique as a 43-footer and it's priced very competitively in the market, without taking anything away the Italian quality. The retail price on a landed boat starts from a tad over $500,000," Peter Redford, Managing Director at 5 Star Motor Cruisers principal, told BoatPoint and boatsales.
"The combination of the accommodation with three beds in the aft cabin for an extended family is really quite amazing in a 43," he adds.
