Finnish boatbuilder Axopar has filed a patent for a pair of gullwing doors that open up over a boat’s forward cabin, hinting that an all-new range of ultra-versatile cabin boats may be on the horizon.
The improved design appears to be based on an Axopar 37 Cabin model. The new boat has facing couches mounted in a redesigned bow, with a large, flat raised area extending from the back of the aft seat to the cabin.
Diagrams submitted as part of Axopar’s patent application show the boat with a set of gas strut-supported, gullwing-style doors opening to the cabin below.
The design also shows an aft cabin, something that is already available as an option on the 11.2-metre Axopar 37 Cabin, which has a sunbed built into the top of it.
The current boat’s design uses twin flush-mounted Lewmar roof hatches for ventilation.
Axopar allows its customers to replace the 37’s aft cabin with either an open space or a wet bar with fridge, electric grill and sink.
The new boat design also includes rub rails that sit much lower on the hull than on existing boats, and extending onto the swim platform – something that may have evolved after feedback from existing customers.
Axopar has not revealed any plans for updates to any of its boats, although it has locked in an appearance at Europe’s largest boating extravaganza, the 2019 Cannes Yachting Festival.
