Automatic identification systems

Oceantalk has been appointed the exclusive regional distributor of UK-based Comar Systems' Automatic Identification Systems (AIS).

AIS transponders are now carried by all international vessels over 300 tonnes. The unit transmits and receives vessel information including position, speed, course, and call sign, via a VHF signal.

Comar produces two main models of the unit, one that only receives signals, and one that transmits and receives AIS information.

The Comar SLR 200 receiver retails for less than $1000.

The Comar CSB 200 receiver and transmitter retails for less than $2500.

Both models can integrate with Raymarine C and E Series units, but a software upgrade may be required, as well as PCs running compatible navigation software.
