PowerCat's newest centre console to make Brisbane boat show debut

The unique twin-hull PowerCat 2400 Centre Console is set to wow visitors at Brisbane’s annual trailer boat festival

The 2019 Brisbane Boat Show will feature a special treat for showgoers this year – the PowerCat 2400 Pioneer Platinum Series, PowerCat’s latest and greatest centre console catamaran.

The one-of-a-kind PowerCat 2400 Pioneer Platinum Series is the first boat built by the offshore fishing and leisure brand’s new owners, Grant and Melissa Oliver who took over the business last year.

Oliver said the aim of the new model was to attract buyers stepping up out of monohull boats who would be wooed by the smoothness of the twin-hull format.

The 2400 Pioneer is the first of what Oliver hopes will one day be a family of twin-hull centre cabs. With a turn-key price starting from $189,500 on an electric-braked Sea-Link dual-axle steel trailer with twin Suzuki 115hp outboard engines, and built on a proven PowerCat 2600 hull shortened by 500mm, the 2400 Pioneer will become the smallest and cheapest catamaran in the brand’s line-up.

New model

“This was our one shot at bringing a new model into the business in the 12 months since we took over,” Oliver told boatsales.com.au.

“What we’ve done is basically a big centre cab, 24 feet, twin 140hp. The boat we’ve built is pretty specced up – so obviously being a demo we’ve put everything we on it,” he said.

“No one else we know has done what we’ve created.”

The Platinum Series tag means the boat on show will be fully loaded with gear.
That includes a glass windscreen, stainless steel fittings, deck wash (fitted as standard), freshwater shower, in-console head, twin 12-inch Raymarine touchscreens, autopilot, SeaStar power-assisted steering, CZone digital switching, and more.

The Powercat 2400 Pioneer has two 200-litre underfloor fuel tanks as standard that can expand to 250 litres each, Oliver said. It can carry 120 litres of water, and has two plumbed 38-litre live bait tanks down the rear.

Infusion process

Of note, the 2400 Pioneer’s hardtop is made using an infusion process that draws the resin through the fibreglass using a vacuum. This ensures a lightweight, high-strength component, PowerCat says.

As shown at the Brisbane Boat Show, the PowerCat 2400 Pioneer Platinum Series will be priced from $255,000 fitted with maximum-rated twin 140hp Suzuki outboard engines.

Importantly, Oliver said PowerCat was aiming for a towing weight of around 3.0 tonnes for the combined 2400 Pioneer boat, motor and trailer package, meaning it could be towed behind a stock-standard trade ute.

The 2400 Pioneer is not PowerCat's first centre console model. In the early 2000s, it produced the PowerCat 248 Profish/Sportsman, an 8.08-metre centre console twin-hull.

The 2019 Brisbane Boat Show starts tomorrow. Tickets are available online.
