Australian International Boat Show to take over Sydney in 2027

Questions raised about the Sydney and Sanctuary Cove boat shows, with the all-new Australian International Boat Show to make a splash in 2027

A major new boat show will take over Sydney in 2027, with world-renowned events company Informa set to launch the Australian International Boat Show.

Informa is the company behind some of the world’s biggest boat shows, including Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach, Miami, and the Monaco Yacht Show.

The Australian International Boat Show will open on July 29, 2027, and Informa has already locked in dates for the next five years, raising questions about the long-term future of the Sydney Boat Show and the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show.

Sanctuary Cove has already locked in dates for May 2027, but the future of the Sydney Boat Show, which is run by the Boating Industry Association, is less clear. The 2026 edition will take place from June 30 to August 2, and if those dates are repeated in 2027, it would clash with Informa’s new event.

Darling Harbour will play host to the Australian International Boat Show, with ICC Sydney featuring a “substantial” indoor exhibition showcasing trailer boats, smaller craft, engines, marine technology, accessories, equipment, services, and lifestyle products. Next door, Cockle Bay will offer on-water displays for larger vessels.

Informa has done its homework on the Australian marine sector and pounced on the opportunity to bring an international-standard boating event back to Darling Harbour.

“We see a genuine opportunity to create an event that not only serves the boating public and supports exhibitors but also contributes to the long-term growth and sustainability of Australia’s recreational marine sector,” said Informa Australia’s Managing Director, Spiro Anemogiannis.

Informa has consulted a broad range of marine industry stakeholders and the new show “will be designed to reflect the diversity of the (Australian) boating community”.

A press release highlighted the fact there are more than 2.6 million boat license holders and more than 900,000 registered boats in Australia, with the event expected to provide a “significant” platform for marine business to connect with consumers, trade buyers, and industry partners.

The 2027 Australian International Boat Show is scheduled to take place from July 29-August 1, 2027.
