Australia Day rocks on Sydney Harbour

Australian Day is going to be upon us before we know it, and wherever you are there will action and celebrations aplenty, but nowhere more so than on Sydney Harbour.

In January, there will some some exciting some new events plus all your favourites on the Harbour which will means there will be something for everyone -- and more.

One of the more interesting new events coming up is the "Tinnie Muster." According to the organisers, up to 400 vessels of all shapes and sizes are expected to attend the inaugural Muster. 

The Tinnie Muster encourages boaties to join in the celebrations at Athol Bay from 2.00pm. You can bring the family down for an afternoon of live music, games and water activities including a floating barbecue and coffee lounge. 

There will also be tinny and bathtub races, a harbour scavenger hunt and a twilight fireworks finale.

The Tinnie Muster is open to all boats and there's a special area for vessels under 8m.

We’re told that the Tug and Yacht Ballet will be a dazzling, choreographed display, using the central and eastern Harbour as the stage. Two agile and powerful tug boats will waltz and tango with a flotilla of yachts giving harbour spectators a precision sailing display, manoeuvring in unison in an amazing show of colour and movement. Time: 12:30pm-1:30pm.

A favourite for decades, the Ferrython returns again this Australia Day. Dressed and decorated to the nines, Sydney's beloved ferries line up for one of Australia's most popular and iconic free events. Even if you haven't got a boat, get on down to Sydney Harbour with your picnic basket and cheer on your favourite ferry as they carve up the harbour and make their final dash to the finish line under the Harbour Bridge. Time: 11.00-11.45am.

And what would Australia Day be without a few tall ships? Sydney’s five tall ships will lead a spectacular parade of historic boats down the Harbour from Bradley’s Head at 1.00pm -- don’t miss it!

The Australia Day regatta is the world’s oldest continuously conducted annual sailing event and will take place throughout the afternoon. Up to 700 vessels, including traditional and classic yachts from around the nation, take part in the Regatta which starts at 1.15pm.
