Aussie social media stars land Outremer 45ft catamaran deal

Sailing La Vagabonde, the Aussie social media sailing stars, score luxury cat deal with Outremer

Despite having no previous sailing experience, an Australian couple documenting their voyage around the world have become such a social-media phenomenon that French catamaran builder Outremer Yachting has now jumped aboard with a historic sponsorship deal involving a new 45 foot catamaran.

Riley and Elayna from Sailing La Vagabonde set sail in late-2014 and have been filming their adventures on YouTube full-time. They’ve crossed the Mediterranean, Atlantic, Caribbean, and now Pacific Ocean, suffered terrifying storms, pirate scares, financial breakdowns, equipment failures, water shortages, and other ‘interesting’ mishaps.

"But we wouldn’t trade living on the sea and travelling wherever the wind takes us for anything," the intrepid couple said.

The social-media sensations have created oodles of free content along the way, offer sponsored give aways and now they just landed a wonderful deal with legendary French catamaran manufacturer Outremer Yachting.

The Sailing La Vagabonde couple will now extend their cruising adventures onboard a new Outremer 45 via a historic sponsorship deal, the terms of which we're not quie sure, but prepare to see plenty of that cat in their future clips.

"We are fans since the beginning and felt their honest and human values meets ours and they might be great ambassadors for Outremer. They had issues finding a loan for their boat, so we stepped in helping them getting a lease," explain Xavier Desmarest, CEO of Outremer.

With some 200k-plus subscribers to their YouTube channel, La Vagabond is part of a community of intrepid sailors documenting their sailing adventures online, plugging brands and products, and making a living from entertaining the hoi polloi looking to join in the thrills vicariously.

The impending new stage, the Outremer 45 is a relatively new model, launched only two years ago, and a considered a true bluewater cruiser purpose-built for couples on long passages.

"I saw an Outremer in Venezuela and made friends with the owners," explains Riley, "We got in touch with the Outremer team and it turns they were huge fans of our adventures."

"We were thinking about getting a catamaran... and we accepted their invitation to join the Outremer Cup in France," Elayna said.

"So we had a tour of the factory, we raced in their regatta, attended all of the social events, all the while we were having very important meetings with the management of Outremer.

"Neither of us can believe how this has all turned out," Riley exclaims, "we’re over the moon."

Riley and Elayna plan to pick up their new boat in February in 2017 from the factory located in the south of France and, after cruising Europe and the Mediterranean, they plan to cross the Atlantic Ocean to the Caribbean and make their way to New York later for the 2018 summer.

Multihull Central is the local distributor of Outremer in Australia and was awarded Outremer International Dealer of the Year in 2014. The brand ambassadors can also provide a five step ‘SEAbbatical’ program to help you make a life changing adventure of your own.
