Just to show it’s not all about big venues and big boats, the Australian Lure Expo at the Ipswich Showground and Exhibition Centre on July 18-19 will be the stage for the greatest-ever celebration of Aussie-made lures, lure making and fly tying around.
Old lures, new lures, timber lures, plastic lures, metal lures, skirted lures, wet flies, dry flies, spinnerbaits or custom lures and flies… it doesn't matter, if it's Aussie-made then this is the place to catch it on show.
As the name suggests, this Expo is designed to celebrate and promote the many excellent, tough, affordable and fishy Australian-made lures and flies.
While there would hardly be a lure or fly made that doesn't have some foreign components, (hooks, eyes, etc), the goods promoted at this event are at least assembled in Australia or at bare minimum, value-added here.
The show also aims to celebrate past Australian lures; provide a venue/forum where people can learn how to make lures and flies; be a hub where lure makers can find components for lure making; encourage people to collect and preserve Australian-made lures and flies; provide a venue where lure collectors can buy, swap, trade or sell their lures; and provide a venue where tackle store owners can see the quality of lures and flies being made in Australia.
Event costs have been kept as low as possible to encourage the high attendance and help raise funds where they are needed in things like fish restocking in the Ipswich region. Awards will be bestowed upon the Lure of the Year, commercial lure maker and cottage categories, and the most artistic lure, best stand and best-presented lure collection.
So it seems, as we’ve always suspected, that lures aren’t just intended to catch fish, other fishers will be snapping them up too!
Exhibitors number more than 100 (up from 60+ last year) with many top lures makers among them. Head to Ipswich Showground - Exhibition Centre, Qld, from 9:00am to 4:00pm daily. More at www.lureshow.com.au. Entry $10, kids under 16 free.
