Arvor boats built in Europe have always struck a chord with Aussie boaters. Using single diesel engines with shaft drives, these are jaunty, low-maintenance, leave-in-the-water wheelhouse craft that have proven reliable over the years.
You get a cabin and, thus, weather protection, bunks in which to spend the night, a small WC and a galley opposite a dinette with views. The cockpit is big enough to cast a line or dine al fresco.
By fate and good fortune, charter company EastSail at d’Albora Marinas, Rushcutters Bay, in Sydney has a brand new Arvor Weekender 23 available for drive-yourself hire on Sydney Harbour.
The diesel inboard engine allows cruising speeds of up to 17 knots, there is a bow thruster for easy berthing, and an electronic anchor winch to make that task a snap. The boat has a sun bed, swim platform and ladder.
The galley features refrigeration and a gas cooker, with an enclosed bathroom and a hot water deck shower. Accommodation can stretch to five people. Prospective Arvor 23 buyers can now try before they buy.
Cost is $87 per hour for day use or $1095 for the full weekend. Fuel is free for unlicenced drivers, who are governed to 10 knots, but costs extra for those with a licence who are permitted to put the throttle to the dash. More from EastSail, see www.eastsail.com.au.
