An online charity auction featuring some of Victoria’s best-known boating brands has raised more than $200,000 for the state’s bushfire-ravaged communities.
Organisers behind the fundraiser, which offered everything from boating accessories to charter trips and even helicopter rides and home maintenance services, have thanked the fishing community for supporting the January 12 event.
In total, the one-day event raised $201,230.66.

“Wow, how good is that,” event organisers posted on Facebook in the wake of the auction.
“After just nine days of throwing something together, we are very proud to announce this total tally will be donated to the Victorian bushfire appeal.
There are so many thanks to give to all the people who helped put this together, for helping out on the day, for donating some truly awesome products and services and for spending the money on the auctions, and we will put up another post soon saying thank you.
“We will get this cheque to the Bendigo Bank start of next week, so it goes to the people who need it ASAP.”
A highlight of the auction was a Stacer 359 Proline tinnie and 9.9hp Mercury four-stroke outboard engine supplied by Melbourne Marine Centre that eventually sold for $5500.
One of the organisers behind the charity auction, Busted Fishing’s Frank Fernkorn, said the event listed more than 160 items that raised much more money than expected.
“It was meant to be a little thing,” he told boatsales.com.au. “The day itself turned out pretty awesome, actually.
“We didn’t expect that much work to be involved [in organising and running the event], but it’s all good – we had heaps of people helping, too.”
He gave a big thanks to everyone who bid on the items, or supplied them for the charity auction. “It was just fantastic,” he said.
The money raised will be donated to the Bendigo Bank’s Bushfire Disaster Appeal, which will direct 100 percent of its funds to communities in need.
