With personal water craft (PWC) sales expected to be strong over the coming months, the three industry leaders have joined forces with the Australian Jet Sports Boating Association (AJSBA) to deliver a strong message to riders to be safe and responsible on the water this summer.
In parallel with the recent launch of Marine Queensland’s ‘Ride for life – PWC Smart Rider Community Safety Plan’, BRP Sea-Doo, Yamaha WaveRunner and Kawasaki Jet Ski — in conjunction with the AJSBA — have undertaken to broaden this program to a national level.
RESPONSIBLE RIDER
The new “RIDE RIGHT Responsible Rider” is a PWC Code of Conduct program launching forthwith through the industry troika’s respective national PWC dealer networks.
?With all three companies providing customers a Responsible Rider Code of Conduct leaflet, the PWC industry is championing responsible riding behaviours on the water.
This positive message will be provided at point of sale and to customers when taking delivery of their new PWC. Existing customers will be provided a copy when bringing in their PWC for service.
SEA-DOO’S VIEW
David Heyes of BRP said with new and exciting watercraft attracting newcomers to the sport, it is important that customers are aware of their responsibility to other waterways users.
“This program ensures that, along with appropriate licensing, our customers joining the PWC family will be stewards of our industry,” Mr Heyes said.
In addition, BRP and Surf Life Saving Australia have been working together to help save lives on Australian beaches since 2009.
Melissa King, Surf Life Saving Australia General Manager of Communications & Business Development, added that “as a corporate partner and valued equipment supplier the new “RIDE RIGHT Responsible Rider” program is yet another way BRP and the industry are actively promoting safer waterways."
WAVERUNNER WORDS
Jason Boal of Yamaha said: “We are very pleased to partner with BRP and the AJSBA on this important initiative. This is an exciting time for Yamaha WaveRunner and the PWC industry as it continues to strengthen.
“More people than ever in Australia are enjoying PWC’s in a myriad of ways including fishing, cruising and family fun. Along with the thrill of riding a PWC, is the responsibility to do the right thing and Yamaha believes that education is key to courteous and safe PWC use.
“With the “RIDE RIGHT Responsible Rider” initiative we hope to ensure our customers will continue to act and promote the safe and responsible use of their PWC”, Mr Boal said.
JET SKI REJOINDER
“Kawasaki wholly supports any initiative to increase safety on the water and is pleased to promote the “RIDE RIGHT Responsible Rider” program through its Kawasaki Jet Ski dealership network,” Robert Walker of Kawasaki Motors Australia said.
“PWCs can offer a high level of enjoyment for the whole family, however, Kawasaki also understands that proper education and understanding of the safe and proper way to use PWCs is of paramount importance to the industry," Mr Walker added.
INDUSTRY INITIATIVE
BRP, Yamaha and Kawasaki actively promote safe and responsible use of PWCs and have worked closely with the AJSBA and state agencies in support of education and awareness programs.
The three companies see this new safety initiative as a valuable way to ensure continued access to waterways and awareness of responsible riding at grassroots level. Today’s PWCs are safer, more manoeuvrable, and have greater control that ever before.
