All the global reveals of the 2019 Boot Dusseldorf

Germany’s premiere boat show kicks off this weekend with a number of world firsts lined up for a reveal

Rolls-Royce hybrid engines, stunning designs and cutting-edge technology are all about to hit the world stage as Boot Dusseldorf, Germany’s biggest boat show, prepares to kick off this weekend.

The show, with its hall located not far from the banks of the Rhine, enters its 50th year with more than its share of global premieres as the pick of Europe’s sailing, fishing and cruising boat brands present their best and brightest products.

As well as all the big brands, Kiwi RIB maker Takacat will be showcasing the T420LX, a flagship 4.2-metre inflatable catamaran that weighs only 50kg. With a 30hp outboard on the back can fly over the water at 50km/h, and is rated to carry up to seven people. Sweet as, bru.

Here’s what we can expect to see at this year’s Boot Dusseldorf.

Absolute 62 Fly

This is the latest motor yacht from the Italian luxury boatbuilder, this time featuring three big cabins, each with a private head and shower. A fourth cabin at the stern has room for two crew.

Three levels, including the flybridge, create enough luxury entertaining space for up to 16 people.

The distinctively styled Absolute 62 Fly, based on the 52 Fly but sitting in between the 60 Fly and 64 Fly models, will be powered using twin Volvo Penta IPS 950 D11 engines, each producing 725hp, for a cruising speed of about 30 knots.

Azimut Atlantis 51 Open

This Neo Design-penned model from the Italian motor yacht maker features an open-air lounge on the deck and another one below, and three cabins for guests.

A pair of 600hp Volvo Penta 800 IPS stern drives will propel the 4.5-metre beam Azimut Atlantis 51 to a top speed of 35 knots, while a tender garage will house a shore-run RIB or a jet ski up to 3.5 metres long.

Azimut will also show the Azimut S6, the little sister to the S7 coupe revealed at last year’s Boot Dusseldorf and the second model to join the S-badged line of cruisers.

Beneteau Oceanis 30.1

Beneteau’s new entry-level sailboat features twin cabins with 1.98 metres of standing headroom, a full saloon and optimised space above and below decks.

Featuring a self-tacking jib and a single winch in the cockpit, the Ocranis 30.1 is optimised for a smaller crew. Sail plans include a large genoa, furling Code Zero, and asymmetric spinnaker.

Boarncruiser Elegance 1280 Sedan

This long and low cruiser from De Boarnstream promises excellent handling, even in rough conditions. The Dutch boatyard has traditionally built retro-styled boats, but is slowly adding more modern lines to classic hulls.

Wide decks and deep coamings provide plenty of topside space, while the interior has two options to either give more space to entertaining, or more to the galley. A set of clears for the cockpit yields even more sheltered entertaining space.

B-Yachts B34

This boat is likely to be built using the same vacuum-forming technique that is used for the larger boats in the Italian sailboat maker’s portfolio. No other informatoin is available.

CNB Lagoon 46

This French sailing catamaran brand had something of a golden era with its previous model, the Lagoon 450, which has sold more than 900 units globally. The Lagoon 46, then, has a big act to follow.

Contruction Navale Bordeaux has taken what it learned with the Lagoon 450 luxury catamaran and rolled it out to the all-new Lagoon 46. It includes a high-mounted flybridge giving good visibility all around the cat, and a large seating/sunbathing area down the rear.

A rear cockpit shaded by the flybridge offers an open seating and dining area with a full wetbar. This area also provides easy access to a large bathing platform that can be fitted with a tender lift, and to a spacious saloon.

Eagle 37

Classic lines on modern yachts combine old-style looks with new-age practicality. This is pretty much the philosophy Dutch boatbuilder Leonardo Yachts has used to create the Eagle 37.

This 37-foot daysailer can cruise along singlehanded, with sheets coming back to the cockpit-mounted winches that include an electric function to help wind on. There’s also a furling genoa, and an electrically operated halyard to hoist the boom-furling mainsail.

Inside, two cabins provide berths for three people, with a head and optional galley for owners keen to anchor up somewhere overnight.

Frauscher 1017 GT Air

Austrian boatbuilder Frauscher has promised three new models for 2019, and the open-deck 1017 GT Air that premiers at Boot Dusseldorf is the first of them.

Based on the enclosed 1017 GT, the Air offers even more onboard space than the cabin model, plus some sophisticated details on top – the stepped hull remains unchanged.

Powering the long, sleek design are a pair of 300hp stern drives, with owners able to step up to a pair of 435hp units if more performance is needed.

A set of clears for the bow lounge and a bimini for the twin centre console are available, giving owners a choice of either sunburn, or ruining the boat’s clean, clear lines for the sake of shade.

Fountaine Pajot MY 40

Another gap-filling model – this one sits in between the MY37 and the MY 44 catamarans – but Fountaine claims this particular model will be “one of the fastest touring catamarans on the market today”.

All that performance will come from a pair of 370hp Volvo Penta IPS 500 engines, giving the cat’s slim and sporty looks some real on-water muscle to flex.

The three-level deck includes a hardtop over the flybridge, while inside the Pajot MY 40 offers what Fountaine claims is “considerable” space with a high level of comfort.

Nautor’s Swan 65

The latest bluewater cruiser from Nautor’s combines sleek ocean racer lines with a no-comfort-spared interior.

The bow profile of the Germán Frers-designed yacht allows precise and comfortable sailing in waves, while powerful volumes in the stern provide high speeds in lee, and low drag.

The keel of the Nautor’s Swan 65 will be available in three different versions, with a telescopic option that drops the keel from its default 2.75m draft to 4.20m “without adversely affecting the interior”.

Twin rudders, the hull design and an advanced sail plan add to the package, with the layout allowing “ambitious sailing with minimal crew”, according to Nautic’s.

Minicat Guppy

Guppies are some of the prettiest freshwater fish you can add to your home aquarium. The Minicat Guppy is one of the ugliest sailing catamarans you can add to your garage.

minicatguppy 0031

It consists of two inflatable pontoons stretching to just 3.0 metres long, with a trampoline in between. Set-up time is quoted at just 10 minutes – this version is unique to its bigger blow-up siblings in that the tramp is attached to the pontoons – and deflated and packed up, it weighs only 26kg.

Underneath is a pair of 1.5-metre keel fins that will help the Minicat Guppy reach speeds of up to 15 knots. The shallow-draft, sponson-hugging keel fins also mean that you can easily drive the Guppy up onto the beach once you’re done for the day.

Moody DS41

If there’s a theme at Hanse-owned yachting sub-brand Moody, it’s probably “Baby’s got back!”. A larger 51-foot version of this deck saloon yacht measures 56 feet in length, but side to side it’s a staggeringly beamy 5.19m.

If the Moody DS41 has equally generous proportions side-to-side, it means the smaller boat will have the same single level throughout, allowing you to walk its entire length, inside and out, without having to step up or down.

Nimbus W9

The Nimbus brand made a stunning debut in Australia at last year’s Sydney International Boat Show. However, the W9 – the “W” stands for “weekender” and is aimed at day trips, overnight trips and social interactions – is the first of a new generation of boats measuring either eight, nine or 11 metres.

These will include the “T” for “tender” day boats optimised for watersports, and the “C” for “commuter”, which will fill in as all-weather transport.

The W9 sticks with Nimbus’s narrow-bridge easy forward access, and includes a twin bed front cabin and an L-shaped cockpit sofa that converts into a sunbed during the day, or aa extra twin berth at night.

Sealine C390 and S330V Outboard

The C390 is the latest addition to Sealine’s Cruiser series of boats. That means lots of room for either lounging around in the sun, or clinking glasses in the entertainment areas.

The boat boasts an elegant master cabin with a bath ensuite, and two guest cabins with standing headroom in their entrances. A folding door connects the saloon with the cockpit, while a large tilting window brings the outdoors inside.

Another debut for Sealine will be an outboard version of the S330V sport cruiser – the first Sealine model to ditch an inboard engine for a set of engines hanging off the transom. Sealine’s owner, Hanse, says this will allow the S330V Outboard to get into shallow anchorages.

Sunseeker hybrid drive

An all-new Sunseeker motor yacht sporting a Rolls-Royce hybrid drivetrain will make its global debut at Boot Dusseldorf this weekend.

The system will use a pair of 1947hp (1432kW) V12 MTU Series 2000 diesel engines, on-board generators, electric propulsion modules, a transmission system, batteries, and control and monitoring systems, and because it is a modular system, expanded when needed.

“The yacht will be provided with six different operating modes that are easy to operate, including the automated ‘smart hybrid’ and ‘charge hybrid’ modes, which enable all power sources to be used as required," Sunseeker said.

The week-long Boot Dusseldorf kicks off in Germany on January 19.
