All-new 2023 Axis A225 to enter Australian production

The all-new Axis A225 will become the biggest Axis model to be built in Australia when it arrives

Axis Wake has introduced two new models to its US-based range of affordable tow and wake sports boats – and one of them is destined for Australian production.

Axis Wake already builds the compact Axis A20 and the Axis AT220 in Australia, with both featuring a traditional bow.

However, the new boat announced overnight and destined for production at Malibu’s Albury-based manufacturing line – the Axis A225 – features a pickle-fork bow, meaning it will become the first locally made Axis model to do so.

When production starts – we’ve asked Malibu Australia when that will be – it will become the largest Axis model built in Australia.

The new boat will feature Malibu’s Wake Plus hull beneath it, meaning the new Axis A225 will be well suited to wake sports. The Axis Surf Gate technology, which helps to shift the wake from one side of the boat to the other as well as shape it, will be available, as will Power Wedge III, used to change the wake’s characteristics from soft and mellow to steep and powerful.

The Axis A225 was launched alongside the US market-only Axis T235, featuring a traditional bow.

Bold looks

Externally, the new Axis A225 features an aggressive aesthetic and bold styling to make it stand out on the water.

“The A225 is inspired by the first-ever Axis,” Malibu said in a release announcing the new model, ”the boat that changed the wakeboarding and wakesurfing industry by offering a budget-friendly option for pro-level wakes.

“Improving upon the legendary A22, the A225 creates wakes and waves that just don’t seem possible from a 22 foot, 5 inch boat.

“Even the Axis pro team has been shocked at the quality of the A225’s wakes and waves.”

Hidden feature

Axis Wake said the all-new A225 has an 15cm in overall length over the US market model it replaces, which allowed its designers to build in a hidden bin in the walkthrough, along with a more spacious and comfortable bow.

Other features include a dashboard with a 7.0-inch Garmin touchscreen – US customers will be able to choose from two upgraded helms featuring even more technology – Bluetooth audio system, and optional upgraded features including wireless phone charging and a rotary sport dial.

The boat also features a forward-facing rear bench seat that can transition to face aft, making it “perfect for taking in the action behind the boat”.

Powering the Axis A225 will be Malibu’s Monsoon M5Di 5.7-litre V8 fuel-injected inboard engine, producing – in ski boat terms – 400-460 ft-lbs of torque.

Axis Wake is Malibu’s sister brand that’s marketed as more affordable models for, among other people, first-time owners who know they want to get into the ski and wake sports scene but want to see what fits their lifestyle before they drop big money on a Malibu-badged boat.
