Akuna Bay Boating & Leisure Festival

Back on the boil this month after years in cold storage
Organisers say there’s something for everyone at the Akuna Bay Boating & Leisure Festival, which returns to the clandestine and picturesque marina in Coal and Candle Creek later this month after a hiatus of some years.
The free family event offers a range of boats, cars and motorbikes on display and for sale. Luxury boat brands include Maritimo, Riviera and Prestige, as well as those classic Halvorsens once for hire and built in the area.
There will be free informative talks on boating held in the Upper Deck Room from 11am-12pm on Saturday and Sunday, while the kids get to play free on the jumping castle.
There’s plenty of excitement on land too! Get behind the wheel of the supercharged Lotus Exige S, or experience the comfort of the stylish new Lexus LX570. If motorcycles are more your thing, Harley Davidson of Blacktown will be there with their fully customised Softail on Sunday.
Meantime, you can explore the rescue boat from Marine Rescue Cottage Point, which has been used to assist in maritime rescue operations include boat fires on the local waterway this year. On Saturday, the Rural Fire Service is bringing their vintage fire truck and a modern truck for the kids to clamber aboard.
We can vouch for the top grub in the Driftwood Café where an à la carte menu will be offered throughout the event. If formal dining is more to your taste then head upstairs to Cielo for a buffet lunch from 12pm-3pm on Saturday and Sunday, followed by dinner at 6pm on Saturday with a live DJ.
The Akuna Bay boat show used to be a successful and popular event until the GFC arrived. So the show’s return is a good sign and perhaps a portent to more buoyant times for the local boating industry. One of Sydney’s secret and stirring places to visit with the family for a weekend.
The Akuna Bay Boating & Leisure Festival will be staged at d’Albora Marinas, Akuna Bay, from September 27-29. Entry is free.
