Aid to Vanuatu

When the 23 boats and 200 sailors competing in the Queensland Government South Pacific Boomerang Yacht Races, which started off Portsea on July 2, arrive in Port Vila, Vanuatu, they will be responsible for bringing more than just their much-needed tourist

In his visits to set up this inaugural race, George Shaw saw how little the people, particularly the children, of Vanuatu have.

So, with a lot of space left over in the container of supplies for the race's competitors, it was decided to freight over items of aid for Vanuatu.

"Particularly in the outlying areas, in the schools they quite literally have nothing in the way of supplies," Shaw said.

About 11.9 tonnes of school goods, including 10 laptop computers and 36 used but useable desktop computers was donated to the tertiary institutes.

Additionally, 15kg of medical supplies will go straight to the hospital in Port Vila and the local Rotary club will distribute just under a tonne of household goods.
