The Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) is seeking applications for the position of Recreational Member on the South East Management Advisory Committee (SEMAC) for the term from February 2017 to 30 June 2019.
The appointment is in line with other SEMAC member appointments to Management Advisory Committees (MACs), which are statutory bodies that provide AFMA with management advice.
Members are appointed by, and report to, the AFMA Commission on relevant policy and operational matters relating to the management of Commonwealth fisheries.
AFMA's key management responsibilities include setting catch and effort levels, fishing gear restrictions, fishing closures and other key issues like fishing for small pelagic fish, baitfish, and resource sharing.
MAC advice is used to inform AFMA’s management decisions and appointments are based on relevant expertise. The role of the Recreational Fishing Member is to:
>> Contribute recreational/charter fishing knowledge and expertise to MAC deliberations
>> Advise the MAC on recreational/charter fishing developments of relevance to the particular fishery
>> Advise on any implications that MAC deliberations and recommendations may have in relation to recreational/charter fishing considerations.
AFMA is now calling for submission to be considered for the recreational position on SEMAC. Submit your curriculum vitae and a cover note (no more than 500 words) summarising your relevant experience, qualifications and reason for your application.
Expressions of interest need to be submitted to AFMA by close of business February 17, 2017 and may be submitted by post, email or facsimile to:
